Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID (2/21/13) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Thursday that rookie forward Brad Ross has been assigned to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads by the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ross, 20, had been playing with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, skating in 19 games. He becomes the second Maple Leafs prospect on the Steelheads' roster, along with forward Sam Carrick.

The Lethbridge, Alberta, product is in his first professional season after completing his major-junior hockey career in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winterhawks. He had 219 points in 206 regular-season games over his final three seasons with the Winterhawks, including 82 points (42 goals, 40 assists) last season for a team that was one win away from reaching the prestigious Memorial Cup tournament. The Winterhawks were eliminated in Game 7 of the WHL Championship series by the Edmonton Oil Kings, who are coached by former Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal.

Ross was a second-round draft choice of the Maple Leafs organization, the 43rd player selected overall, in 2010.
