Ticats Add Former First Rounders Brian Bulcke and Shomari Williams

February 15, 2013 - Canadian Football League (CFL) Hamilton Tiger-Cats

HAMILTON - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have strengthened their Canadian content with the addition of a pair of former first-round CFL Draft picks. Defensive tackle Brian Bulcke and defensive lineman Shomari Williams have signed multi-year deals through the 2015 season, the team announced today.

Bulcke (pronounced bull-KEY) made 29 defensive tackles and three quarterback sacks in 22 regular season games after beginning his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders on September 9, 2011. Bulcke was acquired by the Stamps in a trade with the Edmonton Eskimos, who selected him with the sixth overall pick of the 2010 Draft.

Bulcke, a 6-4, 281-pound native of Windsor, Ontario, also attended training camp with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers in 2011 after wrapping up his NCAA career at Stanford.

In three seasons after being selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the first overall pick in 2010, Williams recorded 90 defensive tackles, 32 special teams tackles, five quarterback sacks and one interception. The 6-1, 232-pound native of Toronto has suited up in all 18 regular season games in each of his three seasons.

Last year, the Queen's product started 18 games at linebacker, making a career high 59 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, two quarterback sacks and two tackles for a loss.
