Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Mississauga Steelheads by a score of 4-2 in Mississauga on Friday night.

The IceDogs would get on the board first as Steven Shipley would tip home a Luke Mercer point shot on the powerplay to make it 1-0 7:59 in. Unfortunately for the IceDogs the lead would not last as Mississauga would answer back with a powerplay goal of their own only 40 seconds later to make it 1-1. The IceDogs would battle to retake the lead however and Jordan Maletta would strike with his first as an IceDog to give the visitors the lead once again at 2-1. That would prove to be it for scoring in the frame as the IceDogs headed into the intermission up one. Shots after the first were 12-9 Niagara.

The second period would see Mississauga tie things up once again, as they scored their second powerplay goal of the night midway through the period to make it a 2-2 game. A third Mississauga goal with 2:30 remaining in the period would give them their first lead of the night and send the IceDogs into the intermission down 3-2. Shots after 40 minutes were 21-21.

The IceDogs would come out looking for the equalizer in the third and would have some near misses, but would be unable to tie it before Mississauga scored their third powerplay goal of the night to make it a 4-2 game at the 11:42 mark of the period. The IceDogs would continue to battle as they looked to get back within one, but it was not meant to be as they would fall by that same 4-2 score. Final shots favoured Niagara 32-29.

The IceDogs will now return to St. Catharines where they will play host to the Oshawa Generals tomorrow night at 7pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Ticket for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all other IceDogs ticketing locations.
