Regina Pats News Release
First Period Looking to get back at the Pats after losing in Regina the night before, the Wheat Kings jumped out to an early lead with a powerplay goal. Captain Ryan Pulock found Jayce Hawryluk to the side of the net for the rookie's 14th goal of the season and third in two games. Pulock would factor into the next Wheat Kings goal as well when he threaded a pass in behind the Pats' defence to Marek Kalus who finished the play on a backhand deke to beat Matt Hewitt. The second goal seemed to bring the Pats back into the game as they turned up the offensive pressure. Curtis Honey was forced to make an outstanding save on Chandler Stephenson to the side of the net, but the Pats would strike before the period finished. With just under two minutes remaining, Jack Rodewald intercepted a Wheat King Pass and drove forward into the offensive zone. He snapped a shot towards the Brandon goal that ricocheted to Braden Christoffer, who redirected the puck into the goal to bring the score to a 2-1 after one period of play. The Pats outshot the Wheat Kings 11-8 in the first.
Second Period The Pats held the momentum heading into the first intermission, but the Wheat Kings turned things around in a hurry. Early in the frame, Eric Roy made a slick move to beat the Pats defence and get a chance on goal. His initial shot was blocked, but he got the puck right back and slung it into the Pats net for a 3-1 Brandon lead. The Pats were granted a an extended powerplay opportunity when Tyler Yaworski hit Luke Fenske up high and put the Pats' defender out of the game. Despite some early chances, the Pats wouldn't be able to score on the long advantage. Late in the second, the Wheat Kings made good on their fourth powerplay of the game when John Quenneville found a bouncing puck in front and slid it behind Hewitt to put the Wheat Kings up 4-1 after two with Brandon leading the shot count 23-21.
Third Period The Pats opened the third with more jump as they tried to cut into the score. On the powerplay, the Blue and White capitalized when rookie Adam Brooks tipped in his third of the year from Colby Williams and Chandler Stephenson. Despite some more offensive chances, the Pats wouldn't be able to draw closer in the game. Down to the final few minutes, the Pats emptied the net and the Wheat Kings would ice it. Jayce Hawryluk came back from an injury earlier in the game to score the fifth goal and wrap up a 5-2 win for Brandon.
