Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS (December 21st) - Wichita (18-8-2) avenged their loss earlier this week against the Fort Worth Brahmas (12-10-4), winning 4-0 on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Torrie Jung won for the seventh time this season and earned his first shutout of the year. Four different Thunder players recorded goals as the Thunder improved to 5-1-0 against the Brahmas in their season-series. Wichita and Fort Worth will play each other two more times this season, with the next meeting coming at the NYTEX Sports Centre on New Year's Eve.

Wichita reversed a trend in the second period, scoring first for the first time in their last four games. Matt Summers broke a tie game at the 14 minute mark as he stole a pass at the Brahmas line, skated in all alone and beat Kristofer Westblom over the glove to make it 1-0. Todd Griffith added to the lead with two minutes left. He caught a long outlet pass from Travis Wight, stepped around a defender and snapped a shot over the blocker of Westblom on the short side to make it 2-0.

The Thunder closed out the game with a pair of goals late in the third period. At 14:23, Erick Lizon made a nice play at the right half boards, skated through the slot, put a backhand through the crease to Ryan Flanigan who pounded it home to make it 3-0. Neil Trimm closed the door on the Brahmas with an empty-net, shorthanded tally at 19:36 and the Thunder skated away, winning 4-0.

Torrie Jung earned his fifth career shutout, stopping all 23 shots he faced. He was named the number one star and also had an assist on the goal scored by Griffith. Wichita has earned shutouts two out of the last four meetings against the Brahmas as the Thunder beat Fort Worth 6-0 a week ago. Griffith finished with two points and Trimm scored his 16th of the season.

Wichita went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Brahmas were 0-for-3.

Wichita travels to Allen tomorrow night to take on the Americans for the second time this year. The next Thunder home game is the day after Christmas as Allen visits the ICT for the first time. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com.
