Otters Lose in Sault Ste. Marie, 6-4

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. - The Erie Otters were unable to win in the debut of Kris Knoblauch as head coach as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds came out on top with a 6-4 win Friday night.

Jared McCann scored first for the Greyhounds 8:44 into the first period with a power play goal from the right circle.

The Otters tied the game at 12:58 of the first period after Kyle Pettit scored his first OHL goal. Pettit banged in a rebound from an Adam Pelech shot to pick up the milestone goal.

Darnell Nurse broke the tie late in the first period to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Brandon Alderson scored 7:39 into the second period to put the Greyhounds up by two, but Connor McDavid put the Otters within a goal at 13:08 after a terrific play.

McDavid stole the puck from Alex Gudbranson in front of the net and made a small deke before lifting the puck over the right shoulder of Justin Nichols for his 16th goal of the season.

The Greyhounds would capitalize again on the power play as Colin Miller scored with 1:51 left in the second to make the score 4-2 going into the third.

Jimmy McDowell scored 32 seconds into the third period with his fourth goal of the season, a blast from the left circle that went between the legs of Nichols.

Nick Halagian scored midway through the third to put the Greyhounds back up by a pair, and Nick Cousins scored an empty net goal to make it 6-3. Jake Evans scored his first goal in 20 games for the Otters to complete the scoring.
