Boulders Announce Manager Dave LaPoint Will Not Return For 2013 Season

(Ramapo, NY) - The Rockland Boulders of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball (Can-Am League) announced today that Dave LaPoint will not be returning as manager for the 2013 season. LaPoint is the only manager the Boulders have had in their two years of existence. A search for the second manager in the history of the Boulders is currently underway.
Among the many highlights that the franchise experienced with LaPoint at the helm were the organization's inaugural home opener on June 16, 2011, at Provident Bank Park,which resulted in a 3-1 Rockland victory in front of 6,317 fans, and the pair of team-record six-game winning streaks his squad ran off in July of 2012.
With the skipper's contract set to expire at the end of December, Team President Ken Lehner announced that the team would not be extending an offer for the 2013 season, while also praising his place in Boulders' history. "As an expansion franchise in any sport in any league, the first few seasons are always the toughest," Lehner acknowledged. "We greatly appreciate all Dave has done to help us build a foundation for continued success."
"He will always have his place as the first manager in our history," Lehner continued, "he made himself available to our fans and media and has always conducted himself as the true professional we know him to be. We're confident that he will continue the devotion he's shown to the sport of baseball and we all wish him the best in his future endeavors."
In his 12-year career in the majors, which was highlighted by his 1982 World Series title with the Cardinals, LaPoint accumulated 80 career victories with a 4.02 earned run average for a total of nine different franchises between 1980 and 1991. His managerial career has encompassed stints with the Adirondack Lumberjacks, Bridgeport Bluefish, and Long Island Ducks, in addition to Rockland, and he amassed a record of 88-104 in his two seasons with the Boulders.
