Oklahoma City Out-Guns Texas 6-4

November 21, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) Texas Stars

CEDAR PARK, TX - Colton Sceviour and Antoine Roussel each scored shorthanded goals for the Texas Stars, but the Oklahoma City Barons overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Stars 6-4 Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.

The Barons wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, finding the net just 1:47 into the game. Taylor Fedun's wide shot from the left point was redirected by Taylor Hall and the puck fortuitously went right across the crease to an unmarked Jordan Eberle, who calmly deposited the frozen rubber into the open net. Texas responded a few minutes later, tying the game at 4:18 when Cam Barker's shot from the blue line beat Barons goalie Yann Danis, assisted by Maxime Fortunus and Cody Eakin. Ten minutes later Colton Sceviour had a moment of individual brilliance to give the Stars the lead. Sceviour took a pass from Jamie Oleksiak, broke down the left wing, then cut back to the middle of the ice before ripping a wrist shot from the high slot past the glove side of Danis at 14:06 for a shorthanded goal. Jordie Benn added a power play goal in the final minute of the period, assisted by Sceviour and Travis Morin as the Stars carried a 3-1 lead into the third period.

Oklahoma answer back with four-unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5-3 lead. Teemu Hartikainen started the scoring at 5:15 with a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat starter Cristopher Nilstorp up over his right shoulder. Just 1:28 later Toni Rajala finished off a two-on-none rush to tie the game with his first career AHL goal. The league's leading scorer Justin Schultz found the net at 9:22 and then Hall scored on a five-on-three advantage to put the Barons ahead 5-3 at 13:33. Through 40 minutes of play Oklahoma City out-shot Texas 30-17.

The Stars pushed for a comeback and cut the Barons' lead in half by tallying their second shorthanded goal of the game. Antoine Roussel raced down the left wing, got by the final defender and made a beautiful forehand to backhand move as he lifted the puck over Danis' glove at 14:47, assisted by Sceviour and Fortunus. However, just as the Stars were pushing to a late equalizer, Barker was whistled for boarding and the potent Oklahoma City power play cashed in with their second of the night. Martin Marincin beat Nilstorp with a wrist shot under the goaltender's blocker at 18:32 to close out a 6-4 Barons win.

Yann Danis finished with 23 saves on 27 shots to record the win in goal for Oklahoma City, while Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 28-of-34 in the loss for Texas, snapped both Nilstorp's and the team's three-game winning streak. The Barons out-shot the Stars 34-27 in the game and went 2-for-6 on the power play; Texas was 1-for-7 with the man-advantage.

The Texas Stars completes their four-game home stand on Friday, November 23rd as they host the Abbotsford Heat at 7:30 p.m. for $3 Beer Night at Cedar Park Center.
