Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has loaned left wing Barry Almeida to the Reading Royals (ECHL), and that the Washington Capitals have reassigned right wing Stanislav Galiev to Reading. The announcements were made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
After earning a spot on the BEARS roster out of training camp, Almeida, 24, has registered two goals, one assist and an even rating in 13 games with the BEARS this season.
The 5-7, 176-pound native of Springfield, MA joined the BEARS for the club's final regular-season game of the 2011-12 season and scored his first professional goal on his second shift of the game. He came to HERSHEY fresh off of winning the 2012 NCAA National Championship with Boston College (HE), while setting career highs in goals (22), assists (18) and points (40) in his senior season. Almeida posted 92 points (45 goals, 47 assists) in 159 career games with Boston College.
Galiev, 20, has appeared in eight games in a HERSHEY sweater and recorded his first professional point, an assist, on October 20. He also played in one game with Reading this season.
The 6-1, 191-pound native of Moscow, Russia, finished his junior career last year with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL), posting 19 points (13 goals, six assists) in an injury-shortened 20-game season. He went on to pile up 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 17 postseason games, leading the Sea Dogs to their second consecutive Memorial Cup final. The Sea Dogs won the Memorial Cup in 2011 behind Galiev's 27 playoff points (10 goals, 17 assists) and his 65 points (37 goals, 28 assists) in the regular season.
Galiev was selected by Washington in the third round (86th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
The BEARS are home to battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight at 7:00 PM. It is Canteen Vending and Bimbo Bakeries Turkey Shoot Night, whereby all fans will have the opportunity to come to ice level after the game for a chance at winning various Thanksgiving food items.
