Rush Bounce Back, Topple Thunder 4-0; Boron Earns First Shutout Of

(Wichita, KS) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush rallied for a 4-0 triumph over the Wichita Thunder at the INTRUST Bank Arena. The well-rounded effort was spearheaded by a 37-save performance by goaltender Tim Boron who earned his eighth career shutout and fourth as a member of the Rush. Rapid City received goals from four different skaters, including veteran John Snowden who notched his first tally of the season. Up next for the Rush is a Tuesday matchup with the Arizona Sundogs at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. 'Two-for-Tuesday' tickets are available through the civic center box office.
The Rush were outshot handily through the opening two periods, 28-11, but were able to muster a 1-0 lead. The lone goal of the opening forty minutes came from rookie Jared Brown who capped a breakaway chance with a wrist shot through the five-hole of Wichita goaltender Kevin Regan. Shortly after, the Rush the Rush preserved their lead by killing off 1:31 worth of 5-on-3 advantage, part of their 7-for-7 effort on the penalty kill.
Just over five minutes into the third period, the Rush got some much-needed breathing room when Damian Surma's centering pass set up Jarrett Konkle for a powerplay goal to double the lead. With less than four minutes remaining, veteran John Snowden capitalized on a point-blank opportunity when he backhanded home his first goal of the young season, giving the Rush a 3-0 advantage. In the final minute, Konkle sent a low shot off of Regan's right pad, setting up Scott Wray for a rebound goal from the crease to secure the 4-0 victory.
Boron's shutout serves as the fourteenth in team history and first since March 21st of last season.
