Stampede to Honor Military During Home Opener

BOISE, Idaho, November 9, 2012 - The Idaho Stampede and Pioneer Federal Credit Union have teamed up to honor active and veteran military personnel, as well as their families, on Friday, December 7 at the team's home-opener against the Austin Toros. December 7 is the 71st anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Military personnel are encouraged to show up in attire that reflects the branch they served; a number of events throughout the night will honor them, their families and those still overseas.
"The Idaho Stampede organization is thrilled to work with local military leaders as we reach out to those who protect our freedom," Stampede President and General Manager Steve Brandes said. "The sacrifice of these men and women is paramount and we would like to do our part to honor Idaho's best and brightest - especially on the anniversary of one of the most impactful days in American history."
The first 1,000 fans to enter CenturyLink Arena for the home-opener will receive a military, pin-up style 2013 Stampede Spirit Dance calendar, along with a small music and lyrics booklet that includes the World War II-era song "Remember Pearl Harbor," as well as songs to each of the five military branch fight songs. In addition, the United States Army 25th Band will be in the arena to play throughout the entirety of the night, including the songs listed above. Mountain Home Air Force Base will present the colors and sing the national anthem at the beginning of the night, after which members of each military branch will be introduced alongside each member of the Stampede's starting line-up.
At halftime, a representative from each branch, carrying their branch's flag, will escort a World War II veteran from that particular branch to mid-court while the band plays their respective hymn.
The Stampede organization has been working with local businesses to underwrite tickets for military personnel and their families, including Pioneer Federal Credit Union. Other area donations have come from Gone Rogue Bar, Red Robin and the Stampede ownership group. The team is selling specially-priced tickets for $10 as a fundraiser, for which %50 of the proceeds will go to the Idaho Veterans Assistance League (501 (c) (3)).
