Oilers Drop Second Straight to Americans

Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - For the second game in a row, the Tulsa Oilers were frustrated by the Allen Americans who posted a 4-1 Central Hockey League victory at the Allen Event Center on Friday night.

The game began with promise for the Oilers who picked up an early goal from Jake Trask just 90 seconds into the game. Trask, a recently signed rookie, was trying to pass the puck across the Americans crease when it banked into the net off the leg of Allen defenseman Tyler Ludwig. Tulsa fired 10 shots on goal in the first period, but couldn't generate much offense during the rest of the game. Instead, it was the Americans who took command in the second period.

Jamie Schaafsma's wrap around tally put the home side on the board at 5:08 of the middle frame. Three minutes later with the Oilers on the power play, Jarrett Lukin created a neutral zone turnover and raced in all alone on Oilers goalie Dan Bakala. Lukin beat Bakala to the blocker side for Allen's first shorthanded goal of the season and a 2-1 Americans advantage. Ryley Grantham tapped in a Daryl Bootland pass late in the period and Allen took a 2-goal lead into the second intermission.

Tempers flared in the third with Gary Steffes dropping the gloves against Grantham and Drew Akins throwing punches with Adam Pineault. The fights did little to spark the Oilers offense which was held to only five shots in the final 20 minutes. Grantham sealed the win for Allen with a late empty net goal and the Oilers fell to 2-3-0 on the road while the Americans improved to 4-0 on home ice.

With a first period assist, Oilers winger Ben Gordon extended his league-leading point streak to seven games. Bakala took the loss while Americans rookie Aaron Dell picked up his first win as a professional netminder.

The two sides will meet again in Tulsa on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m.
