New York Boulders News Release

(Ramapo, NY) - Active International and the Rockland Boulders are extending their ongoing partnership in the Charity Challenge in order to help individuals who have been victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Rockland Boulders will be collecting food, clothing and donations for People to People and others to distribute to residents in need.

Collections will take place at Provident Bank Park in Pomona on Saturday, November 3 from 10AM to 4PM; and Monday, 10AM to 4PM.

"This week has been difficult for all of us, but even more for those without food," said Joe Allen Senior Vice President, Community Affairs of Active International. "People to People was among those having to close their doors during the storm. Additionally, with schools being closed, many hungry people were left with few options to feed themselves and their children."

The Boulders were at the forefront of last year's Hurricane Irene recovery effort and are determined to once again help local communities recover from Sandy. "When faced with adversity, especially a tragedy of this magnitude, it is the responsibility of all able members of the community to come together to help those in need," said Ken Lehner, President of the Rockland Boulders. "Our first priority is to assist those who require basic necessities such as food and clothing and our continuing partnership with Active and People to People is just the first step in restoring our community."

People to People is seeking donations of granola bars, peanut butter and jelly, crackers, tuna fish, fruit cups, and water to assure that there is enough for all in need. The organization will waive normal eligibility requirements and assemble emergency food packages for anyone who is hungry, regardless of whether or not they are a current client. In addition, the Boulders will accept new or gently used clothing that can be distributed to residents who lost their possessions in the storm.

Compounding the need for this effort, the offices of People to People experienced a storm-related fire in its facility Thursday night which is hampering efforts to distribute donations.

If you are unable to visit Provident Bank Park to drop off donations, please go to Peopletopeopleinc.org or the Boulders Benefits Fund page of the Rockland Community Foundation ( http://hstrial-rocklandcommunit.intuitwebsites.com/donationspage.html) in order to make cash donations.
