Oshawa Generals News Release
Peterborough, Ontario - The Oshawa Generals visited the Peterborough Memorial Centre for a rematch of Sunday's game where the Petes won in a shooutout. The Generals special teams were the story as they went 3 for 5 on the powerplay, aiding in their 5-0 win. Boone Jenner picked up four points to put him in the lead for the OHL in points, while Daniel Altshuller stopped all 29 Peterborough shots to collect his first career OHL shutout.
The first period was dominated by the Generals offensively as well as defensively. Oshawa held the Petes to one shot in the first 10 minutes of the game while getting six of their own. In their own end the Gens held off Peterborough's offense by breaking up scoring opportunities and blocking shots.
It wasn't until Oshawa was on the man-advantage that they broke through Petes' goaltender Michael Giugovez, who was the CHL's goalie of the week. Gens' captain Boone Jenner picked up the puck at the top of the right wing circle, and snapped it past Giugovez, who never saw it to make it 1-0 Gens.
The second period was more of the same as the Gens continued to dominate. Peterborough had a chance to get back in the game with a powerplay opportunity, but a spectacular solo effort from Scott Sabourin put the Generals up by two.
Special teams continued to be a factor as Oshawa's powerplay struck again. Michael Dal Colle shovelled the puck home after a point shot from Matt Petgrave to make the game 3-0. The shots were 42-17 after two periods.
The third period saw Oshawa pick up two more goals, from Petgrave and Jenner to make it 5-0, with Petgrave's coming on a one-timer on the powerplay.
The Generals swept the three star selections with Boone Jenner, Scott Sabourin, and Michael Dal Colle all earning their spots.
Oshawa outshot the Petes 52-29.
Oshawa continues on the road tomorrow as they travel to Guelph to take on the Storm. The game will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet. The Gens will return home on Sunday as the Kingston Frontenacs visit the General Motors Centre. Puck drop is at 6:05pm.
