West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (5-1) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (5-2-0-1) 5-4 in a shootout Saturday night at Maverik Center in a battle of the top two teams in the ECHL's Western Conference.

Utah built a 2-0 first period lead and battled back from 3-2 and 4-3 deficits before pulling off a win in the shootout for the second-straight night.

"All in all, it's a big win for us," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We're now 3-0 at Maverik Center and that's what we want. We want it to be tough for teams to come in here and beat us and the effort was there tonight."

Nearly $10,000 was raised in a post-game specialty jersey auction for the Angel's Hands Foundation.

Paul McIlveen and Ryan Howse scored 1:31 apart to give Utah a 2-0 lead 5:19 into the game.

Idaho turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead with goals 3:33 apart at 8:28 and 11:39 of the second period before Utah tied it at 3 on a Trevor Glass goal. Bryan Cameron and Colin Vock (two assists) combined for their second-straight Utah goal and found Glass streaking through the slot for his second goal in two games.

Each teams traded power-play goals in the third. Idaho made it 4-3 3:12 into the frame before Bryan Cameron crashing the net, finished off his three-point night (one goal, two assists) with his first goal of the year 4:53 later.

In the shootout, Ryan Howse and Paul McIlveen scored for Utah and goaltender Andrew Engelage stopped all four Idaho attempts.

Utah played without both of their players with NHL experience as Riley Armstrong served game three of a three game ECHL suspension. In addition, Brad Mills missed tonight's game and is listed as day-to-day.

The Grizzlies and Steelheads will meet again Friday in Idaho at 7:10 p.m. as Utah opens a four-game road trip and seven of their next eight games away from Maverik Center.

Utah returns home on Monday, November 12 for Maverik Monday. With a receipt from Maverik, fans can purchase six tickets for $30 at the arena box office. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Grizzlies cup and discounted Pepsi products throughout the season.
