IceDogs Down Battalion 3-2 in OT

The Niagara IceDogs took home a big 3-2 overtime victory over the Brampton Battalion at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night!The first period saw the IceDogs get off to just the start they were looking for as Ryan Strome would open the scoring for the IceDogs only 1:59 in. The teams would exchange chances during the rest of the period, but that would be the only goal of the first as the IceDogs headed into the intermission up 1-0. Shots in the period were 8-8.
Mitchell Theoret would keep things rolling, staying hot by scoring in his fourth straight game to give the IceDogs a 2-0 lead 2:03 into the second. Brampton would cut into the the lead, scoring to make it 2-1 13:29 into the period. Brampton would not stop there, scoring only 33 seconds later to tie things up at 2-2. That would prove to be it for scoring in the period as the teams were knotted at 2-2 after 40 minutes. Shots after two favoured Brampton 28-16.
The third period would see both teams have their chances to take the lead, but Chris Festarini and Matej Machovsky would be up to the task, keeping the score at 2-2 and sending the game to OT. Shots in regulation time favoured Brampton 39-24.
In overtime, the IceDogs would carry a good portion of the play and then at the 2:41 mark, Dougie Hamilton would fire home a rebound to send the IceDogs fans home happy with a 3-2 overtime victory!
Festarini was great in the victory, stopping 37 of 39 shots for the victory, while Theoret had a goal and two assists to continue his hot streak.
The IceDogs will return to action on Saturday night when they host the visiting Kingston Frontenacs at 7pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex! Great seats are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
