Long Island Ducks News Release

(Waldorf, Md., Sept. 27, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-1 on Thursday night in Game Two of the Liberty Division Championship Series at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Ducks now lead the best-of-five series two games to none.

Both teams exchanged zeroes until the bottom of the fifth when Richard Mercado hit a solo homer off Ducks starter Matt Way to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the Ducks scored two off Blue Crabs starter Matthew Vasquez. Joash Brodin grounded out to first, but Mitch Canham scored on the play, and Dan Lyons followed when the throw from first got away.

Brandon Sing added an insurance run in the ninth on a mammoth solo homer to left, and Leo Rosales retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win.

Way (1-0) dazzled for the win, tossing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits while striking out 10. Vasquez (0-1) took the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits in eight innings of work. Rosales earned his second save of the postseason with the perfect ninth.

Sing and Shawn Williams led the Flock with two hits apiece.
