Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - September 19, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that defensemen Matt Campanale and Jimmy Martin, who have signed to play with the Jackals in the ECHL this season, have been invited to the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators' training camp.
"Matt and Jimmy are quite deserving of this opportunity to attend the Binghamton Senators' training camp. We hope that they have a great camp, open some eyes, and give themselves a chance to advance their hockey careers," said Jackals general manager Matt Hufnagel.
Campanale, who is entering his second season of professional hockey, played one game with Binghamton last year. He was in the lineup for the Senators' visit to Syracuse on November 25, 2011. The 5-11, 200-pound rearguard also has five AHL games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and one National Hockey League game with the New York Islanders. Those came following the completion of his senior season at the University of New Hampshire in 2010-11.
Martin, a second-year pro out of Yale University, will be attending his first AHL camp. Acquired via a trade with the Florida Everblades last January, he posted 14 points (4G, 10A) in 33 regular season games with the Jackals. Martin then went on to notch a goal and an assist while appearing in all 10 of Elmira's Kelly Cup playoff games.
The Jackals are scheduled to begin their training camp on September 28, 2012. In preparation for the 2012-13 season the Jackals will play their annual Blue-White Game on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at First Arena. All tickets for the Blue-White Game are general admission and are on sale now for $5. Jackals season ticket holders will receive complimentary admission to the game.
