Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks in a day/night doubleheader on Saturday at Bethpage Ballpark by scores of 10-6 and 9-1.
Camden would score first in game one on a solo home run by Brian Burgamy in the opening inning off Ducks starter John Brownell. The Riversharks tacked on four more runs with one in the second and three in the third. A RBI double by Jake Eigsti, a solo homer by Reid Gorecki and a two-run home run by Raul Padron made it 5-0 Camden.
The Ducks would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Mitch Canham off Riversharks starter Mike McGuire. However, Camden answered right back with two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Juan Martinez.
Long Island fought back with single runs in the fifth and six on a RBI single by Bryant Nelson and a run-scoring fielder's choice. Three more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run double by Canham and a RBI single by Kraig Binick cut the deficit to four, but that was all they could muster.
McGuire (8-10) picked up the win, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs with five strikeouts. Brownell (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
In game two, Camden jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Ducks starter Randy Keisler. A two-run double by Pedro Feliz and a sac fly off the bat of Alvin Colina did the damage. Two more runs in the second on a run-scoring groundout by Lloyd Turner and a RBI single by Burgamy stretched the lead to five.
A solo blast by Lee Cruz off Riversharks starter Josh Walter in the fourth put the Ducks on the scoreboard, but a single run in the sixth and a two-run eighth put the game out of reach. Martinez' two-run homer highlighted the scoring.
Jonathan Velasquez (1-0) got the win with three scoreless innings of relief, striking out two. Keisler (4-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs on nine hits in six innings of work.
