Monarchs Shake up Max & Cheese Food DriveSeptember 13, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Manchester Monarchs
The New Hampshire Food Bank will be selling $10 raffle tickets for fans to win the opportunity to help the Monarchs players package up enough macaroni and cheese to create over 15,000 meals. The raffle tickets will be sold during the Stanley Cup Rally at the Verizon Wireless Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16 as well as the games during the Monarchs Home Opening Weekend, presented by AutoFair, when the team hosts the Providence Bruins on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. and the Portland Pirates on Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. Fans can also purchase raffle tickets online at www.manchestermonarchs.com. Three lucky winners will be announced during the second intermission of the Monarchs game on Saturday, October 20. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank.
"The Monarchs Care Foundation and the Manchester Monarchs are happy to partner with the New Hampshire Food Bank and add this creative new twist to the annual Max & Cheese Food Drive," explained Monarchs Vice President of Public Affairs Kimberly Mueller. "We are committed to the city of Manchester and the state of New Hampshire and by helping package the Max & Cheese, we'll be able to assist in feeding thousands of families across the state."
Monarchs fans are still encouraged to bring boxes of macaroni and cheese to both of the team's Home Opening Weekend games and use the boxes as noise makers to cheer the Monarchs on to victory. At the end of the games, the team will collect the boxes of macaroni and cheese and donate them to the New Hampshire Food Bank.
Macaroni and cheese is a meal in itself. It has the basic building blocks of a wholesome meal and it is so easy to make, even kids can do it. Macaroni and cheese is a comfort food and a staple item at the New Hampshire Food Bank as it has a two-year shelf life.
"Macaroni and cheese is one of the most requested items at the food bank," said the New Hampshire Food Bank's Executive Director Melanie Gosselin. "We distribute food to over 400 agencies throughout the state. The demand for food grows on a daily basis and this food drive will assist us in meeting those demands."
AutoFair will donate a portion of their vehicle sales from the month of November to the New Hampshire Food Bank in conjunction with Max & Cheese. They will also have cars on the plaza of the arena during the Monarchs Home Opening Weekend, to collect the boxes of macaroni and cheese that fans donate to the New Hampshire Food Bank.
