Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

A week's worth of frustration was seemingly taken out in one night Friday, as the Idaho Falls Chukars ended their five-game losing streak with a 12-5 beat down of the Ogden Raptors at Lindquist Field. The Greybirds smashed 10 extra base hits in the victory, including three home runs for the second straight night.

On a night where the number three and four hitters went a combined 0-8, five Chukars finished the game with multiple hits. Right fielder Jerico Blanco paced the group with a 3-4 evening that included three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Shortstop Adalberto Mondesi also had a monster game with three hits in five at-bats, which included a double and three RBI as well.

The three Chukars homers came from second baseman Carlos Garcia, left fielder Diego Goris and catcher Parker Morin. It was the second straight 3-homer game for Idaho Falls, with all three bombs coming as solo shots for the second straight night as well.

The offensive frivolities started in the second for the Chukars, with Parker Morin doubling to left and coming in on two wild pitches. Both Carlos Garcia and Jerico Blanco would walk in the frame, with center fielder Ethan Chapman driving in Garcia with a hit and Blanco scoring on an error.

The Chukars picked up two more runs in the fourth thanks to RBI doubles by Blanco and Mondesi to stretch their lead to 5-0.

The Raptors responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, but the Greybirds offense would strike again in the sixth with a solo homer from Garcia, another double by Blanco and an RBI single from Mondesi to go ahead 7-3.

Ogden would make one final push in the seventh with two more tallies, but Idaho Falls pulled away late with two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to finish the game with their 12-5 win. The 8th inning tallies come on an RBI double by Blanco and an RBI sacrifice fly from Mondesi, while the 9th inning saw back-to-back solo homers from Goris and Morin before third baseman Nick DelGuidice doubled and scored and a RBI groundout by Bello.

Chukars starting pitcher Alec Mills looked good early, but lost his control in the middle innings. Mills finished the game with a no-decision after four innings pitched with three runs allowed on five hits, four walks and six strikeouts. Reliever Sam Lewis (2-1) recorded the win for Idaho Falls with 2.2 innings from the pen, allowing just two unearned runs on one hit. Cory Hall (5) picked up his fifth save of the year after entering a 7-5 game in the seventh and tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

Ogden starter Jonathan Martinez (0-1) was roughed up making his Pioneer League debut, as the 18-year-old righty allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits in his four innings pitched.

With the win the Chukars (15-17) take their season series against the Raptors (19-13) 9-7. The Greybirds now head to Colorado to start a four-game series with the Rockies. First pitch Saturday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
