Chukars and Royals Extend Contract
August 29, 2012 - Pioneer League (PL) Idaho Falls Chukars
The Kansas City Royals and Idaho Falls Chukars are proud to announce that the two clubs have extended their Player Development Contract (PDC) through the 2014 season. The new agreement looks to enhance the Chukars standing within the Royals minor league system. The Chukars have been a part of a three team short-season arrangement with the Royals since 2007. Starting next season however, the Royals plan to use Idaho Falls as it's top short-season destination.
"It is my understanding that the Royals will use the Chukars as their last developmental stop before full-season ball (Low A Kane County)," said Chukars GM Kevin Greene. "This should lead to older, more advanced players coming to Idaho Falls."
The Royals also announced a new agreement with the Burlington Royals of the Rookie level Appalachian League, meaning all the Kansas City Minor League affiliates will remain in place for next season.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to continue our relationships with both Idaho Falls and Burlington," said Royals' Director of Minor League Operations Scott Sharp. "We are fortunate to have tremendous ownership and front office staffs along with great facilities in both cities to assist us in developing the next wave of Major League players."
Idaho Falls has been an affiliate of the Royals since the adaption of the Chukars moniker in 2004.
