Pirates Charities Partners With Bradenton Police Department On Youth Baseball Card Program

August 29, 2012 - Florida State League (FSL) Bradenton Marauders

Bradenton, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders, the high-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Bradenton Police Department today announced a partnership to encourage positive youth behavior. Bradenton Police Department Officers will give youth specially designed Marauders player baseball cards as a reward and incentive for positive actions and attitude.

Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, provided funding for the program. The program is based on a similar program in Pittsburgh that has been used with great effect by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Officers to break down barriers between law enforcement and youth in the community.

There are six baseball cards, each featuring a different Marauders player. On the front are photos of Alex Dickerson, Gift Ngoepe, Carlos Paulino, Mel Rojas Jr., Casey Sadler and Jameson Taillon. The players' autographs are superimposed on the front of the cards. The backs of the cards feature inspirational sayings that encourage positive behavior.

"Anytime we have a successful program in the Pittsburgh community, and can bring that program into our Southern home here in Bradenton, that is an opportunity we have to take advantage of," Pittsburgh Pirates Senior Director of Florida Operations Trevor Gooby said.

"This is another tremendous example of the Pirates striving to make a positive difference in Bradenton," City of Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston said. "Seeing the Pirates go above and beyond to bring a program like this to Bradenton really shows what a great relationship the City and the Pirates have."

Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is a 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on three core areas of youth health, fitness and education. To learn more about Pirates positive impact in the community, visit www.pirates.com/community .
