Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE -- It was a long night of baseball, but unfortunately not a productive one for the Charlotte Stone Crabs offense on Tuesday.

After dropping the opening contest by a 5-2 score, the Stone Crabs were blanked by a 3-0 final score in the night cap as the Palm Beach Cardinals swept a doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park.

Were it not for a two-run homer in Game 1 from Todd Glaesmann, the Stone Crabs were in danger of being shut out in both ends of the twin bill. The two wins allowed Palm Beach to extend its winning streak over Charlotte to seven consecutive games.

Dropped from Double-A Springfield, Anthony Ferrara could not find his way out of the third inning. Despite that abbreviated start, the Cardinals bullpen stepped up to work 4-1/3 scoreless innings to close out the 5-2 victory.

Palm Beach touched up Albert Suarez (5-9) for four runs - all earned - on six hits to hand him his fifth straight losing decision. After scoring single runs in the first and second innings, Starlin Rodriguez homered to start a two-run rally in the third.

Having already secured Game 1, the Cardinals got a superb pitching performance from lefty Ryan Sherriff in the night cap. His seven inning, complete game shut-out was supported by a three-run home run from Chris Edmondson in the sixth inning.

Sherriff (10-3) allowed just four hits and a walked one batter while striking out three. His performance was matched blow for blow by Stone Crabs spot starter Jimmy Patterson.

After five scoreless innings of two-hit ball, Patterson was lifted. The home run by Edmondson came at the expense of Charlotte reliever Alex Koronis (3-2), who surrendered five hits over two innings of work.

The series concludes on Wednesday as the Stone Crabs turn to lefty Braulio Lara to salvage the finale. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
