-SPIKES HEAD TO WILLIAMSPORT TONIGHT: The State College Spikes face the Williamsport Crosscutters tonight to start a two-game mini-series at Historic Bowman Field. State College faces a 5 1/2 game deficit behind division-leading Auburn in the Pinckney Division race. The Spikes have taken five of eight games against the Crosscutters so far this year. The SawBuck Series all-time records favor Williamsport, which holds 42-38 edge in the all-time series.

-LAST GAME: In a wild and crazy game, the State College Spikes were nearly saved by Jesus Vasquez's two home runs to tie a team record, but the Auburn Doubledays scored six runs in the ninth inning and the Spikes' furious comeback in the last at-bat fell just short in a 10-8 defeat at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday night in front of 4,380 fans. Tyler Gaffney also tied a team record with a pair of triples, while D.J. Crumlich doubled twice in the loss.

-HOLMES LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK TONIGHT: Right-hander Clay Holmes, makes his eleventh start of the year for the Spikes tonight after a rough outing in his last start. The 19-year-old comes off of his shortest pro start, lasting just 1 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on two hits and five walks to Jamestown on Sunday. However, Holmes is still among the league's leaders with a 1.41 ERA and a .142 opponents' batting average, and leads the Pirates system in ERA as well.

-'CUTTERS GO WITH MARTINEZ THIS EVENING: Right-hander Manaure Martinez is slated to start for Williamsport tonight. Martinez, a native of Venezuela, was signed as an free agent in March of 2011 by the Phillies. In his last start, the righty went three innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, a walk and a hit batsman in a no-decision at Batavia. Martinez began the year in the Gulf Coast League, where he went 2-3 with a 2.43 ERA in seven starts.

-TRIO OF SPIKES HELP NL TO ALL-STAR WIN: The Spikes' Jacob Stallings, D.J. Crumlich and Tyler Gaffney each helped the National League All-Stars hold onto an early lead and add to it late in an 8-1 victory over the American League All-Stars in the 2012 New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Eastwood Field on Tuesday night. Stallings walked and scored a run. Gaffney was hit by a pitch, walked and scored a run. All three players entered the game after the fifth inning.

-SPIKE MARKS: Samuel Gonzalez leads the NYPL with five sacrifice flies...Tyler Gaffney was hit by his league-leading 18th pitch of the year on Friday...Gaffney reached base all five times he came to the plate in last night's game...Last night's loss was the Spikes first when scoring first at home this year, dropping them to 10-1 when that happens
