
Tigers Shut out IronBirds

NORWICH-The Connecticut Tigers (27-31) scored four runs in the eighth inning to secure a 5-0 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds (24-25) before 1,516 fans at Dodd Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
LHP Efrain Nieves (3-1) pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
The Tigers broke free with a run in the seventh inning. LF Zach Kirksey (3-4) led off the inning with a double, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by 3B Edgar Corcino (0-3) and scored on a wild pitch by Aberdeen RHP Jose Nivar (2-1) for a 1-0 lead.
In the eighth inning the Tigers increased their lead to 5-0. SS Jared Reaves (1-4) singled, went to second base on a throwing error and to third base on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by RF Danry Vasquez (3-4) for a 2-0 lead. CF Patrick Smith (0-3) walked and Kirksey blooped a single to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Corcino allowed Vasquez to score and a two-run double by 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (2-4) made it 5-0.
The Tigers and IronBirds finish their series on Monday night at7:05 p.m. It's a "Kids Eat Free" Monday with all kids 12 and under receiving a coupon for a hot dog, bag of chips, bottle of water and an apple! The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
