Inland Empire 66ers News Release
The Inland Empire 66ers (59-65, 28-26) continued their push for a playoff berth by defeating the Lancaster JetHawks (62-62, 25-29) 7-3 Saturday night. The team was anchored by strong pitching and a solid offensive performance. 66ers second baseman Taylor Lindsey was the star at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI double. Lindsey now has 58 RBIs on the year, good for third best on the team.
The 66ers found themselves in an early 2-0 deficit but 66ers left fielder Ryan Jones hit an RBI single that ended with he himself coming in to score on an errant throw by JetHawks right fielder Domingo Santana. Infielder Kaleb Cowart had a two RBI double to give Inland Empire some added insurance.
66ers starter Aaron Meade was able to limit the high power Lancaster offense just enough as he went 5 innings, gave up two earned run, and struck out six to earn his first win in a much improved second start to improve to 1-0. JetHawks starter David Martinez took the loss to fall to 7-5. 66ers reliever Carmine Giardina pitched two scoreless innings, and struck out four including the side in the 6th to keep the 66ers on top. 66ers reliever Ty Kelley notched his fourth save of year pitching a perfect 1 1/3 innings.
The 66ers go for the sweep against the Lancaster JetHawks at 6:05 pm tomorrow. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 5:55.
