San Jose Giants News Release

STOCKTON - Ryan Bradley allowed just one run over six innings and the San Jose Giants held off Stockton late to earn a 5-3 victory over the Ports on Saturday evening at Banner Island Ballpark. San Jose has now won eight out of their last nine road games while improving their overall record to a North Division-best 66-58.

Bradley (8-6) picked-up his second win in the last 12 days over Stockton. The left-hander, who induced three double plays during his stint on the mound, allowed five hits, issued two walks and struck out two.

Joe Panik (3-for-4) had three singles and scored three runs to lead the Giants offensive attack. Bobby Haney (2-for-4, RBI) and Alex Burg (2-for-4) also finished with two hits apiece.

San Jose never trailed in the contest scoring single runs in the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, Jarrett Parker drew a leadoff walk before Skyler Stromsmoe singled to put runners on first and second. Haney followed with a line drive single to right plating Parker with the first run of the game. Stromsmoe was thrown out at third base by right fielder Dusty Robinson on the play before Ports starter Max Perlman retired the next two batters to end the inning.

In the top of the third, consecutive singles from Panik and Burg to start the frame put runners on the corners. After Ricky Oropesa struck out, Andrew Susac delivered a sacrifice fly to right scoring Panik for a 2-0 advantage.

Stockton cut the lead in half with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Michael Gilmartin singled with one out before Chad Oberacker doubled to put runners on second and third. Myrio Richard then came through with a sacrifice fly to score Gilmartin with the first Ports run of the evening. Oberacker advanced to third on the play, but was stranded when the next batter, B.A. Vollmuth, flied out.

The Giants extended their lead in the top of the fifth as three straight singles from Panik, Burg and Oropesa to start the inning produced one run. Susac then grounded into a double play with Burg coming home to make it 4-1.

Meanwhile, after setting down the Ports 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Bradley plunked Mitch LeVier to begin the fifth. However, the next batter, Yordy Cabrera, lined into a double play to third base helping Bradley get through the inning.

In the sixth, Richard led off with a double, but was thrown out at third when he attempted to advance on Vollmuth's grounder to shortstop. A.J. Kirby-Jones followed by drawing a walk to put runners on first and second, but then Ryan Ortiz's grounder to third was gloved by a diving Haney, who started a double play to end the inning.

San Jose made it 5-1 in the top of the seventh as Panik led off with a single before Burg was hit by a pitch. Oropesa then reached on a fielding error committed by Vollmuth at third base. Panik scored on the play when Vollmuth's hurried throw to first sailed into the seats for a second error.

Shawn Sanford (2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) and Phil McCormick (1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) combined on a scoreless bottom of the seventh out of the Giants bullpen. Josh Osich (1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) pitched the eighth inning, but issued a leadoff walk to Oberacker before Vollmuth lined a one-out home run to left trimming the San Jose lead to 5-3. Osich though recovered to set down the next two batters to end the inning.

Jose Valdez (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) worked the bottom of the ninth to record his seventh save of the year. With two outs, Cabrera singled to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Michael Gilmartin followed by grounding out to seal the Giants victory.

Perlman (0-2) suffered the loss after yielding two runs (both earned) on four hits over four innings. He walked three and struck out four.
