Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Rancho Cucamonga saw their six-game winning streak come to a stop on Saturday night, as Tommy Medica's three-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning put the Storm ahead to stay, in a 5-2 win over the Quakes at The Diamond.
Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Garrett Gould allowed a lead-off single by Jeremy Rodriguez. After a sacrifice bunt by Rico Noel, Gould struck out Cory Spangenberg for the second out. But a walk to Casey McElroy brought Medica to the plate, who delivered the game-winner, his 15th homer of the year.
The Quakes and Storm were scoreless until the sixth, when Rancho got RBI hits from Joc Pederson and Angelo Songco, making it a 2-0 game against Storm reliever Greg Gonzalez.
Gould (4-8) took over in the sixth and struggled immediately, walking Noel and giving up back-to-back hits to Spangenberg and McElroy, making it 2-1. Medica followed with an RBI groundout, tying the game at 2-2.
Big-league rehabbers' Rubby De La Rosa and Matt Guerrier worked five full innings of scoreless work, with De La Rosa going the first four.
Storm reliever Jerry Sullivan (4-4) notched the win with two hitless innings of relief, while Kevin Quackenbush recorded his 26th save with a perfect ninth.
The Quakes (62-62) lose a game in the standings to the Storm (64-60) for one Wild Card spot, but remain in a tie with Lancaster for the second of the two potential Wild Card spots.
Rancho will throw Angel Sanchez (6-8) on Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game set, while the Storm will counter with Matt Branham (6-2) at 5:05pm.
The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 24th, as 1,500 fans will receive a free Dodgertown Rancho Cucamonga Doormat, thanks to Allstar KIA. Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
