Lindsey and Cowart Crush, 66ers Cruise 5-1

Taylor Lindsey supplied the Inland Empire 66ers (58-65, 27-26) with an insurance run on a 7th inning homer, to help his team open their home stand with a win over the Lancaster JetHawks (62-61, 25-28) 5-1. 66ers third baseman Kaleb Cowart had a huge offensive day at the plate for 4-for-5 with a solo home run, his 6th of the year. Cowart was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

The 66ers offense got out of an early 1-0 deficit as 66er left fielder Ryan Jones got shortstop Jean Almanzar home to tie the game and then first baseman C.J. Cron hit an RBI double to give Inland Empire a lead they would never relinquish. Cron now has 116 RBIs, seven RBIs shy of the franchise record of 123 set by Chin Feng Chen in 1999. 66er second baseman Taylor Lindsey also contributed with a solo shot to right field for his ninth of the season. Lindsey finished the night going 3-for-5 at the plate.

66ers starter Andrew Smith had his best outing with the 66ers as he pitched a quality start going seven innings, giving up one earned run, striking out five and walking three to pick up the win. Smith improves to 3-1 on the season. 66ers reliever Eric Cendejas pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two to pick up his fourth save of the year. JetHawks starter Colton Cain was charged with the loss to fall to 0-2. The 66ers continue their series with the Lancaster JetHawks at 7:05 pm tomorrow. It will be an Albert Pujols Kids Jersey Giveaway Night to the first 1,000 kids 14 and under in attendance presented by the 66ers Dance Team.
