Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes completed a 5-1 home stand and a three-game sweep over the Stockton Ports, rallying for a 9-2 win on Thursday night at The Epicenter. Three home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning turned a one-run deficit into a four-run advantage, as the Quakes took the lead for good, helping them also sweep the season-long six-game series over the Ports.

Trailing 2-1 in the last of the fifth, Chris Jacobs opened the inning with a towering home run to left-center field against Stockton starter Sean Murphy (6-7), his 11th of the year, evening the game at 2-2. Jonathan Garcia followed with a solo-shot of his own, his tenth to put the Quakes in front, 3-2. Joc Pederson capped the inning with a three-run blast to right, his 16th of the year, chasing Murphy and giving the Quakes a 6-2 advantage.

That was plenty for JonMichael Redding, who fired six innings of shut-out baseball to earn the win. Redding (8-6) allowed just one hit, scattering four walks, while striking out seven batters.

The Ports actually had an early lead in Thursday's series-finale, as Dodgers' rehabbing left-hander Ted Lilly worked a scoreless first, but allowed a solo shot to A.J. Kirby-Jones in the second, giving the Ports a 1-0 lead.

Matt Guerrier, also down from the Dodgers as part of a rehab assignment, surrendered a run in his only inning of work, as Diomendes Lopez doubled and eventually scored from third on a wild pitch, putting Stockton in front, 2-0.

Murphy had an unbelievable start for the Ports, as he struck out eight of the first nine hitters he faced in three perfect innings. A one-out error clearly broke his concentration in the fourth though, as Joc Pederson reached on a fielding error, stole second, then scored on a single by Yasiel Puig, putting the Quakes on the board at 2-1.

Pedro Baez capped the scoring, as his three-run double put the game away in the eighth against Stockton reliever Jonathan Joseph, making it 9-2.

With their fifth straight win, the Quakes (24-28, 61-61) are now just one game back of Lancaster (62-60) and two games back of Lake Elsinore (63-59), both of whom lost on Thursday, for the two Wild Card spots in the South Division.

The Quakes open a series with the Storm on Friday night at The Diamond, sending Ryan Acosta (2-1) to the mound against Matt Lollis (0-3), with first pitch slated for 7:05pm.

The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 24th, as 1,500 fans will receive a free Dodgertown Rancho Cucamonga Doormat, thanks to Allstar KIA. Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
