
Sox Out-Hit Hawks Again, Lose Again

EVERETT, Wash. -For the second night in a row the AquaSox (34-21, 6-11) out-hit the Boise Hawks (25-30, 12-5), but were out-scored, this time losing by a score of 11-8 Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. Taylor Ard extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a line-drive single in the ninth.
The scoring got started right away in the first inning, with both clubs putting two runs on the board. Mike Zunino recorded two RBI in the inning when he hit a line-drive double off of the scoreboard in right-center field.
The Hawks put a six-spot on the board in the second inning to jump out to an 8-2 lead. Boise designated hitter Marco Hernandez led off the inning with a home run to right field, and first baseman Dan Vogelbach hit a three-run home run to right-center for his second longball of the game and fifth of the series.
The Sox put up a run in bottom half of the second and three more in the bottom of the third to narrow the Hawks' lead, 8-6. Patrick Kivlehan and Alfredo Morales got the third inning started with consecutive singles, and Ketel Marte would plate both runners on a triple down the right-field line that trailed into the corner.
In the fourth innning, Boise scored twice to increase their lead, 10-6.
Jamodrick McGruder worked a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth to gain another run for the Sox, narrowing the lead to 10-7. The Sox would score another run in the seventh on an RBI single by Marcus Littlewood, but wouldn't score again to ultimately fall short.
The Sox will look to turn things around on the road, beginning with a five-game series in Spokane. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (5-0, 3.28 ERA) will get the start, and will be opposed by right-hander Eric Brooks (2-2, 3.34 ERA) of Spokane.
The AquaSox return home Sunday, August 19 to kick off the final homestand of the season.
