Barons and Smokies Open Promotion Packed Homestand

August 10, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Birmingham Barons

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons return home for a five-game homestand against the Tennessee Smokies, Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The series marks the second-to-last homestand for the Barons at Regions Park with only 10 games remaining in the 2012 home schedule.

Kicking off a jam-packed home stand will be 50-cent Hot Dog Night presented by Ball Park Franks, Charter Communications and Jefferson Co. ALFA Agents. Wednesday is AAA Wednesday presented by AAA of Alabama as members can show their card and save at Regions Park.

The weekend starts early with Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser and Buffalo Wild Wings, featuring 16 oz. beverages for $1. Thursday will also feature a Ladies Giveaway item courtesy of the AVEDA Institute. Prior to Thursday's game there will be a pre-game concert presented by Redline Bar & Grill with gates opening at 6:00 PM. Following Friday's game, the Barons will shoot off Friday Night Fireworks presented by Coca-Cola, Dale's Seasonings and MBS.

The homestand concludes with Super Saturday Fireworks presented by Red Diamond and MINI of Birmingham. Saturday is also Medical Appreciation Night. Prior to Saturday's game, the Barons will hold a team autograph session on the field. Gates will open at 5:30 PM with the autograph session lasting until 6:00 PM.

Saturday will also see the announcement of the winner of the Travelers VIP Fan Experience, which will include an appearance by former members of the 1992 Alabama Football National Championship team including Prince Wimbley, Derrick Owens Lassic, Antonio Langham, David Palmer and ESPY Award-Winner Tyron Prothro. The players will throw out first pitchers to generate awareness for Coach Nick Saban's charity, "Nick's Kids Fund" and will sign autographs during the game.
