
Generals Blast by Montgomery Friday to Stop Skid

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Generals stopped a short 2-game losing skid Friday with a 4-2 win over Montgomery. Five pitchers combined to hold the Biscuits to 2 runs on 7 hits. Jackson, now 68-49, 26-21 on the season and still a 1/2 game back of Chattanooga in the division. The 68 wins matches the entire season win total from last year.
Johermyn Chavez put Jackson up 2-0 in the top of the second inning with his 5th home run of the season. The 2-run shot was his first since July 5th.
Montgomery answered with a run in the bottom of the second, but Jackson pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third on the 18th double of the season from Rich Poythress that scored Brad Miller.
Jackson logged their 96th homer of the season in the fifth on a solo shot from Stefen Romero that made it 4-1 Generals. It was Romero's 9th Double-A homer and 20th overall this season.
Mikie Mahtook homered for Montgomery in the bottom of the fifth to trim the lead to 4-2, but that was the final tally.
Jackson starter Brandon Maurer left after 83 pitches and 3.2 innings on the mound. He takes a no decision allowing a run on 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking 4. Jose Jimenez (1-1) earned the win surrendering a run in 1.1 innings of relief. Jandy Sena added 2.0 scoreless innings to earn a hold and Logan Bawcom fired 1.2 scoreless. Yoervis Medina came into the game with two runners on and two outs in the ninth and threw one pitch to retire Derek Dietrich on a pop up to end the game. Medina earned his 4th save.
Brad Miller posted his 50th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Rich Poythress and Jesus Sucre were also credited with two hits on the night.
The Generals continue their 5-game series at Montgomery on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. LHP Steve Garrison (5-3, 3.95) will make the start for Jackson against RHP Matt Buschmann (5-7, 4.40) for Montgomery. The game will only be available on NewsTalk 101.5 FM, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and the Generals TuneIn Radio Station.
