Boise Hawks News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Home runs from Stephen Bruno, Carlos Escobar, and Gioskar Amaya helped the Boise Hawks to their third-straight victory, toppling the Everett Aquasox, 11-7, before 2,103 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The victory for the Hawks pushed the club five-games over the .500 in the second half of the Northwest League season, giving Boise a three-game lead on Spokane and a four-game lead on Tri-City and Yakima in the East Division standings.
Everett took a quick 1-0 lead in the first on a Taylor Ard sacrifice fly, but Boise countered in the second to plate three - one on a Jamodrick McGruder throwing error, and a pair on a safety squeeze from Trey Martin - as the throw by pitcher Scott DeCecco went down the first base line, allowing both Marco Hernandez and Carlos Escobar to score.
The Aquasox would get solo homers by Alfredo Morales in the second and Marcus Littlewood in the fourth to tie the game, before Bruno hit a two-out, two-run blast to right-center to give Boise the lead for good. Escobar added a two-run shot in the sixth to give the Hawks a 7-4 lead, with Amaya's homer giving the visitors a 8-6 lead in the seventh.
Everett would get within 9-7 in the eighth inning, but Nathan Dorris struck out Morales, representing the tying run to end the threat - with the Hawks getting an RBI double from Willson Contreras and a Rock Shoulders RBI single in a two-run ninth to cap the scoring.
Felix Pena got the win, allowing four runs in four innings, with Dorris fanning three to pick up his first save. Amaya and Shoulders each had three hits in the victory. Jenelfry Zorrilla went 3-for-5 with a homer in the loss for Everett.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. (PT), with James Pugliese meeting Rusty Shellhorn.
