GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. (8/3/12) - The Burlington Bees (54-55, 22-18) one a nail-biter when they out-pitched the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (64-45, 20-20) for a 1-to-0 win on Friday. The Bees' pitching staff dominated in the shutout and Sean Jamieson provided the only run with a solo home run in the fifth.

Julio Ramos started the strong pitching by only facing one over the minimum through his first three innings on the mound. In fact, Ramos made an appearance for the first time as a member of the Bees. Ramos has missed the last two seasons rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and pitched under a strict pitch count.

Ramos went 3.2 innings before he met his pitch count and left the game with a runner at first. As Ramos left the mound, Bees' skipper Aaron Nieckula and the entire infield shook Ramos' hand for a strong performance and his longest start with the Bees. Ramos only allowed two hits and one walk, and finished with three strike- outs.

Jose Macias took over and also dazzled. The right-hander had four strikeouts in 2.1 innings and only allowed one hit. Macias (6-5) eventually earned his sixth win thanks to Sean Jamieson's shot in the top of the fifth.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Jamieson hit a shot that easily cleared the fence in left. Jamieson's home run was his eighth dinger this season and the third against the Timber Rattlers. In four at bats, the All-Star shortstop had three of the Bees' five hits and drove in the only run of the game.

Things got intense in the bottom of the eighth as the Timber Rattlers tested the Bees' pitching. Having already pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Raul Alcantara allowed a leadoff triple to Yadiel Rivera. The Timber Rattlers asked Nick Ramirez to pinch-hit for Adrian Williams, but the Bees countered with Chas Mye. Ramirez - a left-handed slugger - came into the game with batting average below the Mendoza line when facing lefties. Mye struck out Ramirez with four breaking balls and left the game having done his job.

Jonathan Joseph came into to the game and induced a pop-up that first baseman Max Muncy chased down in foul territory. With two outs and a runner at third, Joseph blew a fastball by Carlos George to end the eighth inning and preserve the Bees' 1-to-0 lead. Joseph eventually closed the door in the ninth and earned his 11th save in 11 opportunities.

The Bees return to Burlington to host the Quad Cities River Bandits on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT. Tanner Peters (1-4) takes the mound for the Bees in game one. For more information on Bees baseball call (319) 754- 5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
