Rough Fourth Spells End for Chinooks in Eau Claire Friday 11-5 In

For the second night in a row, the Chinooks pitching staff failed to get outs when it mattered most. Not to mention the offense may force the creation of a new address for the small village they left on the base paths. Last night it was the bullpen, this time it was starter Cody Glenn (LSU) who would be forced into an unceremonious exit. The Eau Claire Express tallied eight times in the fourth en route to an 11-5 win at Carson Park.
Eau Claire got on the board early thanks to a sacrifice fly in the first. The Chinooks responded very nicely in third. A pair of two out singles by Brian Anderson (Arkansas), Michael Jergella (Minnesota State) plated two runs, putting the Chinooks ahead 2-1. Two batters later, Scott Wilcox delivered with a two RBI double pushing the lead to three.
The Chinooks headed to the field for the bottom half with plenty of momentum, thanks to some clutch two out hitting. The only problem was, someone forgot to tell the Express.
Eau Claire pulled to within one after just five pitches to begin the frame, thanks to a leadoff single by Tim Zier and a two run home run by Nick Addison. Glenn made a nice comeback getting the next hitter, Josh Scheffert to ground out to third for the first out. From that point forward his location deserted him. Six of the next seven batters reached base, spelling an early exit for the lefty. Evin Einhardt (Wabash Valley CC) was brought on to stop the bleeding. Not before the Express added one more run for good measure. Eau Claire plated eight runs on seven hits in the third to regain the lead at 9-4.
Aside from the one run in the fourth, Einhardt was effective in three innings of work. His line included just two hits and three walks surrendered to the fourteen men he faced.
The final run of the game for the Chinooks came in the eighth when Brian Anderson delivered an RBI single scoring Germen Reyes (Winston Salem) from second.
The offense certainly hand plenty of other chances to score throughout the contest. The Chinooks left a total of fourteen runners on base in the contest including a leadoff triple by Forrest Chadwick (Southern Maine) in the fifth and eight other teammates in scoring position.
The Chinooks will try an avoid the sweep tomorrow as they send Tim Verthien (UW-Lacrosse) to the mound for the 6:35 start.
