BayBears Drop Sixth Straight After 6-1 Defeat

The Mobile BayBears fell 6-1 to the Mississippi Braves Friday night at Trustmark Park. The BayBears were limited to just one run on four hits, but led 1-0 entering the bottom half of the fifth inning before the M-Braves scored two runs in the fifth and added four more runs in the sixth inning. With the loss, the BayBears have now dropped six straight games for the first time this season.

The BayBears scored first in the top of the third after Ed Easley reached on a base hit and scored on a RBI single from Evan Frey. The Braves rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning after a RBI double from Alden Carrithers and a RBI single from Christian Bethancourt. Mississippi posted four more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Todd Cunningham.

LHP David Holmberg suffered the loss, allowing all six runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. RHP Gary Moran earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits in seven full innings. With the Braves' win over the BayBears, Mississippi will have an opportunity to sweep Mobile for the first time ever.

Mobile and Mississippi conclude their series on Saturday, July 28, with first pitch at 6:00 PM.
