Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Kyle Russell drilled a first-pitch fastball over the right-field wall in the tenth inning to lead the Lookouts to a 5-3 win over the Barons in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.
After a quick three innings of much-ado-about-nothing baseball, Birmingham broke the ice in the top of the third inning. With one out already on the board, Carlos Sanchez singled and advanced to second on a subsequent single from Brady Shoemaker. With two runners on, Andy Wilkins took a Matt Magill offering over the right field wall to give Birmingham a 3-0 lead.
Birmingham starting pitcher Brett Caroll made quite the debut for his new team. The righty threw five innings of one-hit ball without yielding a single run.
With Carroll's departure, reliever Leroy Hunt entered the game for the Barons and immediately struggled. Hunt quickly loaded the bases by walking Anthony Jackson and Rafael Ynoa before hitting Nick Buss. Hunt then struck out Luis Nunez, but threw a wild pitch to score Jackson with Kyle Russell at the plate. Russell then hit a bullet to second baseman Carlos Sanchez, who made a tough play to get Russell at first. With the score at 3-2 and Buss on third, Blake Smith scorched a grounder to the right, but another great play by Sanchez accounted for the third out of the inning.
The Lookouts tied up the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the eighth on a Luis Nunez solo shot.
The game went into extra innings, and Rafael Ynoa led off the tenth with a bloop single. Nick Buss pushed Ynoa to second with a well-executed bunt, but the small ball approach proved to be irrelevant, as Kyle Russell ended the game with a walk-off homer off of Nick McCully (1-1) to give the Lookouts the win.
Logan Bawcom (3-3) pitched the final two innings for the Lookouts to earn the win.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Birmingham Barons will continue their five-game series at 11:15 A.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
