Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 22, 2012) - The Frederick Keys handed the Dash their first rubber game defeat at BB&T Ballpark this season with a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon.

The Keys and Dash wrapped up their efforts in Winston-Salem with five wins apiece. Only Frederick and Myrtle Beach have a record of .500 or better inside BB&T Ballpark thus far this season. The Dash dropped to 10-3-2 in home sets in 2012.

After Dash starter Matt Wickswat (1-1) turned in four scoreless innings to begin his outing, Frederick (14-16, 41-59) ousted the southpaw in the fifth. The Keys banged out five singles and scored three runs, all of which were charged to Wickswat, who struck out five in his effort.

Winston-Salem (15-15, 59-40-1) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two on and two down, Marcus Semien yanked a double down the left field line to push home both runners.

However, the Keys added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Joe Oliveira laced a solo shot beyond the board in left field. Oliveira finished the day 3-for-4 and scored twice.

For the second straight night, the Dash could not take advantage of scoring chances. Semien's fifth-inning double was Winston-Salem's lone hit with a runner in scoring position. The Dash went just 1-for-18 with men in scoring position Saturday and Sunday, with both of those games resulting in Frederick victories.

Frederick starter Tim Berry (3-2) held the Dash to a pair of runs on four hits. The southpaw struck out eight en route to the victory. Behind Berry, three relievers combined to blank Winston throughout the game's final four innings. For the second straight night, David Walters tossed a perfect ninth for a save.

Winston's bullpen thrived in the losing effort, too. In his first relief appearance since June 22, Justin Collop allowed just one run on two hits in two and a third frames. Kevin Vance followed with a pair of scoreless innings in his High-A debut.

The Dash look to rebound by welcoming in the Carolina Mudcats for the first of four Monday night at 7:00. Winston-Salem sends Steve McCray (4-2, 3.63 ERA) to the mound against lefty Francisco Jimenez (8-6, 4.71 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:45 on wsdash.com.
