Dayton, Ohio - Jabari Blash collected four hits including a home run, two doubles, and a triple to lead the Clinton Lumber Kings to a 10-6 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night. A crowd of 8,328 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.
Clinton scored six runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding lead. They collected five hits in the inning including Blash's run-scoring double, a two-run double by Guillermo Pimentel, and a two-run single by Mario Yepez.
The Dragons battled back, scoring two runs in the second inning and two more in the third to make it 6-4. Juan Silva's RBI double and a run-scoring single by Yorman Rodriguez highlighted the third inning rally.
But Clinton reliever Kyle Hunter (1-5) shut down the Dragons over the next four innings. He retired the first nine batters he faced and completed his outing by allowing two hits and no walks with five strikeouts over four frames to earn the win.
Clinton added one run in the fifth, one in the seventh on Blash's homer, and two in the eighth to build their lead to 10-4. The Dragons scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring.
Dayton starting pitcher Jacob Johnson (1-3) bounced back after allowing six runs in the first inning but still suffered the loss. He lasted five innings and allowed eight hits and seven runs (six earned) while walking no one and striking out three. Cole Green followed Johnson to the mound and worked two innings, allowing two hits and one run with two walks and no strikeouts. Dan Jensen tossed the final two innings, giving up four hits and two runs with no walks and one strikeout.
The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Sean Buckley was 3 for 4 including a double with a run batted in. Juan Perez added two hits.
The Dragons host the Lumber Kings again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. James Allen (6-3, 4.04) will start for the Dragons against Clinton's Bobby Shore (2-2, 2.95). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Channels 23 & 372).
