BayBears Blast Biscuits in 11-3 Win

The Mobile BayBears topped the Montgomery Biscuits 11-3 Sunday night at River Walk Stadium. RHP Derek Eitel earned his seventh win of the season, working eight full innings for the BayBears. Eitel held the Biscuits to just three runs on four hits and struck out six in his longest outing of the year. The BayBears evened the series with the Biscuits at one game apiece, and with the win, Mobile and Montgomery are tied for first place in the overall Southern League standings.

The BayBears scored first with two runs in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead on a RBI single from Alfredo Marte. After the Biscuits tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, Marte put Mobile back out in front 4-2, with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Marc Krauss added to the BayBears lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Mobile pulled away from the Biscuits in the sixth inning after scoring four more runs when Chris Owings gave the BayBears a 9-3 lead with a two-run double.

After giving up a two out walk to Omar Luna in the first inning, Eitel allowed a two-run homer to Ryan Garko. The Biscuits only other run scored in the fourth inning when Luna crossed home on a double play ball. After giving up the one run in the fourth inning, Eitel retired 13 straight batters.

Biscuits RHP Matt Bushmann was credited with the loss, allowing nine runs to score on 11 hits through just six innings.

Mobile and Montgomery resume the four game series on Monday, July 16, at 7:05 PM. RHP Michael Bolsinger (2-2) will start for the BayBears and RHP Nick Barnese (1-0) will take the hill for the Biscuits. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday, July 19, to open up a four game homestand vs. the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at 7:05 PM.
