Pensacola Takes Two from Lookouts

July 13, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Chattanooga Lookouts

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Pensacola's starting pitchers Tony Cingrani and Mark Serrano came through with solid performances to lead the Blue Wahoos to two wins over the Lookouts in a Friday night double-header at AT&T Field. Pensacola won the first game, 2-1, and took the second game of the twinbill, 6-1.

In the first game of double-header, both teams remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Pensacola ended the offensive drought with two runs. David Vidal got the rally started with a one-out double. Andrew Means followed with a walk to put two runners on base. At which point, Lookouts starting pitcher Aaron Miller (4-6) was removed from the game in favor of reliever Javier Solano. Solano was greeted with a two-RBI triple from Tucker Barnhart to account for Pensacola's two runs of the game.

The Lookouts scored their lone run of the game in the bottom portion of the fourth. C.J. Retherford led off the inning with a double and aggressively advanced to third on a subsequent J.T. Wise ground out. A passed ball by catcher Tucker Barnhart allowed Retherford to easily score.

Pensacola starting pitcher Tony Cingrani (5-1) went the full seven innings to earn the win. He yielded just one unearned run, four hits, two walks, while striking out two in his performance.

Nick Buss gave the Lookouts a quick lead in the second game of the twinbill with a solo shot in the first frame.

The Blue Wahoos exploded for five runs in the third inning to take the lead from Chattanooga. Lookouts starting pitcher Chris Reed (0-1) entered the third without having relinquished a hit but quickly found himself in trouble with the bases loaded with two outs. Bill Rhinehart then nailed a ground-rule double to bring home two runners. Reed's struggles continued, as he, once again, loaded the bases by walking Brodie Greene. Bryson Smith then ripped a bases-clearing triple to put the score at 5-1, while prompting the exit of Reed from the game.

Pensacola added an insurance in the seventh on an RBI single from Ryan LaMarre to put the score at its final resting point, 6-1.

Mark Serrano (1-0) was credited with the win for the Blue Wahoos. In five solid innings of work, his only serious blemish was the solo shot to Buss in the first frame. He surrendered four hits and a walk, while striking out five in the winning effort.

The Lookouts will hit the road to play the Mississippi Braves in a four-game series. The Lookouts will be back in town on Thursday, July 19th to play a four-game series against the Tennessee Smokies. After an off day on July 23rd, the Lookouts will resume their homestand with a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons.
