
Whitecaps FC Acquire Jamaican International Richards and Allocation Money from Red Bulls for Le Toux

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club have acquired midfielder and Jamaican international Dane Richards, as well as allocation money, from New York Red Bulls in exchange for striker Sebastien Le Toux. Richards will join his new teammates in Chicago this evening and be available for Saturday's Major League Soccer match versus Chicago Fire at Toyota Park. Per club and league policies, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Richards is a speedy player and very dangerous down the wing. He brings plenty of MLS and international experience to our club, so we're delighted to have him in Vancouver," said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. "We would also like to thank Sebastien for all of his contributions to the club and wish him the best of luck in New York."
Richards, 28, joined Whitecaps FC following five-and-a-half seasons with New York. As a member of the Red Bulls, the speedy midfielder is second all-time in appearances with 147 and minutes played with 11,699. Richards is also third all-time in assists with 26 and scored 21 goals with New York.
Following a successful two years at Clemson University, which included 23 goals and 17 assists in 20 appearances, Richards was selected in the second round (19th overall) of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.
A native of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Richards has scored eight goals in 37 international appearances for his country.
Le Toux joined Whitecaps FC from Philadelphia Union in exchange for allocation money on January 31, 2012. During his short spell with Vancouver, the Frenchman scored four goals and had one assist in 19 league appearances with Whitecaps FC.
