Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Brian Pointer hit two home runs and drove in six as the Cutters rode a seven-run first inning to an 11-8 victory over the Staten Island Yankees.

Roman Quinn, Chace Numata and Cameron Perkins led off the game with back-to-back-to-back triples. Then, with a 2-0 lead, Mitch Walding drove in Perkins. Finally, with the bases loaded, Pointer had the bases loaded and took the first pitch out to straight away center for a 395-foot grand slam.

Staten Island brought starter Taylor Morton back out for the second inning, and paid for it with three more runs. Chris Serritella hit an RBI-double before Pointer hit his second homer in as many innings. This, time, Morton hung an 0-2 fastball up in the zone and Pointer sent it over the right field fence for a two-run blast.

Despite a ten-run lead and Josh Warner on the hill, Staten Island still made it interesting.

The Yankees scored two runs in the second innings, before putting up two more in the fifth on a Saxon Butler home run.

The Cutters made it 11-4 in the sixth when Larry Greene scored on a Staten Island error, but the Yankees scored four runs on Jim Birmingham, who left the game with another tweaked elbow.

Jeb Stefan stunted the Yankee rally from there. He pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball and set things up for Zach Cooper, who notched the save.

The Crosscutters up their record to 9-12 with the win and play the rubber match with Staten Island tomorrow. First pitch is at 7 p.m. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
