Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Tyler Naquin had played long enough. After 10 and a half innings of baseball on Sunday afternoon, he sent everyone home happy from Eastwood Field when he lined a 0-1 fastball into centerfield to score Erik Gonzalez from second. The run sent the Scrappers to a 5-4 walk off win over the Connecticut Tigers. Geoff Davenport got the start for the Scrappers and was nearly unhittable for 6 innings. He went 6 innings and allowed just 3 hits and 1 run. He did not walk a batter and struck out 3. He left with a 4-1 lead. The bullpen was unable to hold the lead when the Tigers tied the game in the top of the 8th inning. Jack Wagoner worked the top of the 11th inning to earn his 1st win of the year.
Offensively it was Aaron Siliga leading the way for a second straight night. Siliga finished the game 3-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. He was intentionally walked by the Tigers in the 11th to set up a lefty lefty matchup. The walk backfired when Naquin ended it.
The Scrappers look for the sweep tomorrow night at 7:05. It's the final game of the home stand and the last game at Eastwood Field until July 17th. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
