Giants Begin Three-Game Series Against Rancho Cucamonga Tonight... The San Jose Giants continue their homestand this evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at Municipal Stadium. San Jose lost two out of three games to the visiting Modesto Nuts to begin the homestand. After the Giants won an 8-2 decision on the Fourth of July, Modesto bounced back with victories of 6-2 and 6-1 over the last two nights. In yesterday's contest, Nuts starter Leuris Gomez struck out eight and allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings to pick-up the win. Four Modesto pitchers combined to limit the Giants to just four hits. San Jose's only run of the night came in the bottom of the fourth inning on Alex Burg's two-out RBI single. Giants starter Taylor Rogers suffered the loss after yielding three runs (all earned) on six hits over six innings of work. Rogers walked five and struck out five.

Media Coverage... The entire series can be heard live on sjgiants.com and inside Municipal Stadium at 92.9 FM with Joe Ritzo calling all of the action. Additionally, every home game this season will be streamed live and available on demand through MiLB.TV.

Second Half Update... San Jose is off to a 7-9 start in the second half. The Giants are currently in a tie for third place in the North Division - four games behind the Modesto Nuts (11-5) for the top spot. San Jose has not been over .500 this half since June 23 when they were 2-1.

Home Struggles... The Giants have dropped three consecutive home series' to begin the second half. San Jose lost two out of three games to both the Stockton Ports and the Lake Elsinore Storm during their previous homestand before picking-up just one victory in three games against Modesto in a series that ended last night. Since beginning the season 19-4 at home, the Giants have posted just a 6-15 record at Municipal Stadium. San Jose is hitting .250 overall at home this season compared to .279 on the road.

Aubrey Huff Continues Rehabilitation Assignment... San Francisco Giants first baseman Aubrey Huff is scheduled to continue his rehabilitation assignment with the San Jose Giants during this series against Rancho Cucamonga. Huff is recovering from a sprained right knee. In his first game with San Jose on Wednesday, Huff finished 0-for-1 with a pair of walks before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the seventh. Huff has not played the last two nights. In 32 games with San Francisco this season, Huff is batting .155 (9-for-58) with one home run and five RBI's. Two years ago, Huff was a key member of the Giants' World Series championship team when he hit .290 with 26 home runs and 86 RBI's. Huff debuted in the major leagues with Tampa Bay in 2000 and has played for the Rays (2000-06), Astros (2006), Orioles (2007-09), Tigers (2009) and Giants (2010-12). He owns a career batting average of .278 with 242 home runs.

One-Run Success... The Giants possess an outstanding 16-9 record in one- run games this season. San Jose has the most one-run victories (tied) and highest winning percentage (.640) in one-run games of any team in the California League.

Anders Extends Hitting Streak To 12 Games... DH/first baseman Luke Anders brings a 12-game hitting streak into tonight's action. During the streak, Anders is batting at a .476 clip (20-for-42) with six doubles, a home run and 12 RBI's. He's raised his season batting average from .248 to .297 over the 12 games. Ryan Lollis owns the longest Giants hit streak this season at 13 games (May 11-25).

Versus The South Division... The Giants are 14-8 against South Division teams this season (31-33 versus the North). San Jose swept a three- game series from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at Municipal Stadium in the only previous meeting between the clubs (April 16-18).

Record-Setting First Half Championship Streak Ends... San Jose concluded the first half with a 38-32 record and in second place in the North Division. It marked the first time since 2004 that the Giants didn't win the first half North Division crown. San Jose finished three games behind the Bakersfield Blaze (41-29) for the top spot. The Giants had won a California League record seven straight first half North Division titles (2005-2011). The previous league record for consecutive first half championships was three (Visalia Oaks, 1981-83). After sweeping Bakersfield in a series that ended on May 26, San Jose owned a 5 1/2 game lead in the standings over the Blaze with 21 games remaining. However, the Giants went just 6-15 to finish the half, including a 10-game losing streak from May 27-June 5. San Jose now needs to win either the second half North Division title or secure the wild card to extend their streak of consecutive playoff appearances to nine seasons (2004-2011).

Opponent Notes: Rancho Cucamonga Quakes... The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are currently 6-10 in the second half - seven games behind the Lake Elsinore Storm for the top spot in the South Division.
