Colin Smith Selected by Colorado Avalanche

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers are pleased to announce that 19-year-old forward Colin Smith has been selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the 7th round, 192nd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Smith, who was not selected in his first year of eligibility last season, had an outstanding season finishing with 35 goals, 50 assists and 85 points playing in all 72 games for the Blazers. Smith finished second in team scoring behind Brendan Ranford.

The 5'10" 175lb forward has represented Team Pacific in the U-17 World Challenge and participated for Team Canada at the U-18 World Championships in 2011.

Smith is the fifth Blazer to be selected by the Colorado Avalanche and the first since Ray Macias in 2005. Others Blazers selected by the Avalanche include Jared Aulin (2000), Robyn Regehr (1998), and Randy Petruk (1996).

Smith joins his line mate Tim Bozon, who was selected in the 3rd round, 64th overall by the Montreal Canadiens, as the two Blazers selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
