Drew Stubbs to Play for Dragons Beginning Friday

Dayton, Ohio - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Drew Stubbs is scheduled to play for the Dayton Dragons beginning Friday, June 22nd when the Dragons open up the second half of the season at Fifth Third Field. The duration of Stubbs' time with the Dragons has not been determined. Stubbs, a former Dragons outfielder, will be on a major league injury rehabilitation assignment in Dayton.

Stubbs, the Reds' starting center fielder, strained his left oblique while taking a swing on June 5th. He has appeared in 53 games with the Reds this season, hitting .235 with seven home runs, 18 runs batted in, and 13 stolen bases.

Stubbs spent the entire 2007 season with the Dragons and was a Midwest League All-Star on a team that won the first half Eastern Division championship. He finished the season hitting .270 with 12 home runs, 43 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. The 2007 roster included 11 future major leaguers to date including Zack Cozart, Juan Francisco, Todd Frazier, Chris Heisey, Chris Valaika, Jordan Smith, Justin Turner, Daryl Thompson, Marcos Mateo, and Pedro Viola.

Stubbs was the Reds first round draft pick in 2006 out of the University of Texas. He made his major league debut in 2009 with the Reds and has appeared in 403 big league games, establishing career highs in home runs in 2010 with 22 and in stolen bases in 2011 with 40.

Stubbs will become the third major league player to play for the Dragons this season on an injury rehabilitation assignment. Infielder Miguel Cairo was the first, followed by relief pitcher Bill Bray.

The Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Friday at 7:05 p.m. for a three-game series.
