Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 win over the Kane County Cougars Sunday afternoon at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The win puts the Chiefs at 31-32 as they go for seven straight, and look to finish their second straight sweep Monday evening at 6:30.
The Cougars jumped on the board first in the top of the third against Starling Peralta. Lane Adams walked with two outs before Michael Antonio reached on an infield single to Dustin Geiger at third as Adams advanced on the play to put runners on the corners. With Murray Watts batting, the Cougars executed the double-steal as Adams scored with a steal of home giving Kane County a 1-0 lead.
Peoria used small ball to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. Javier Baez led off with an infield single and stole second base with Geiger up to bat. Geiger popped out, and Yasiel Balaguert followed with a strikeout on a wild pitch, as Baez advanced to third. With Yaniel Cabezas batting, another wild pitch by Andrew Ferguson allowed Baez to score, tying the game at 1-1.
The Chiefs jumped on in front with one swing in the bottom of the fifth. Oiver Zapata and Taiwan Easterling led off with back-to-back bunt singles. After Anthony Giansanti flew out, Paul Hoilman slammed a three-run homerun over the berm in left field to give Peoria a 4-1 lead. The homer was his fourth of the season and Hoilman leads the Chiefs with 39 RBI.
Peralta went three innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks, striking out two. Austin Reed (3-4) also tossed three innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one. Felix Pena hurled two innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, striking out two. Yao-Lin Wang came in for the ninth, going one perfect inning with one strikeout while recording his team-leading eight save of the season.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Paul Hoilman (1B) - Hoilman smacked his team-leading fourth homerun, a three-run shot, in the fifth inning to help Peoria extend their win streak to six games.
